Our rather crazy house has seven (formerly eight) doors to the outside world, six of which are mammoth sliding glass doors. The other two include our front doors and the now-sealed up swing door off the kitchen. It turns out sliding glass doors benefit greatly from regular maintenance.
Since moving in, we’ve had five of the sliding glass doors serviced by A1 Sliding Door. This involved new bearing assemblies and a few tweaks to get them better aligned. Thankfully the super-huge 9′ door (which we open perhaps once every few months) doesn’t need new bearings or any adjusting, as it would require a team of five people to handle. Think I’m making things up? Here’s a pic from way back when we had all the glass in the great room replaced.
It took a team of four just to handle the smaller door in the dining area, and doing all windows/doors in that room required three separate visits by a team of four people. The last visit to handle the big doors had an extra two strong bodies.
Needless to say we do not want to go through all that again, so I now have a calendar reminder that pops up every year to remind me it is time to service the doors, which works out to be a pretty simple process. I grab the Dyson cordless and clean each door’s rails, then fill a bucket with some water and dish soap. Usually only the bottom of a door needs some TLC, as very little dirt accumulates elsewhere. Once the bottom is clean, I use some silicone spray on the rails.
