Matchy-Matchy and Some Tape and Some Labels

Back when I replaced some unaesthetic light fixtures, I bought four lights identical to the two on the garden shed for the studio building. In December 2024, two more joined the club: Agent Smith put one outside the sliding doors of our bedroom, and one outside the kitchen. (Sadly, I didn’t get a before shot of the kitchen one.)

Here’s what was outside the bedroom before, and what’s there now.

Unlike their siblings on the studio building, which now all have smart bulbs, these two don’t. Their switches are easy to reach, so there’s no need. The studio lights are another story: for all but one of them, you have to go inside the building to flip the switch. The problem with that is they kept getting switched off. My fix? A bit of electrical tape that “holds” each switch on and visually reminds people not to touch it.

I even had to tape the one out by where we store the trash cans. It’s the only one of the four switches located outside, but its waterproof cover flips down and can turn the switch off.

Sidenote: tape isn’t the only thing on our switches. We have some crazy banks of four and five switches that I’ve had to label, but the labels are fading and I need to look for prettier options. Suggestions welcome!
