As detailed in the last two posts, I had some tables and lamps shipped out from my parents’ house in late 2021. A little over a year later, I finally made use of them. Thanks to some sanding work by Agent Smith’s father, some custom legs crafted by a friend, and some patient work to get them stained, the tables were ready for assembly.
My original idea was to take the legs off the side tables, cut them in half and use them as wall shelves. After letting that idea percolate for a bit, I decided it was way too much work, and I didn’t relish the idea of irreparably changing the basic structure of two of the tables, so I found another idea. I arranged the tables in a non-destructive manner to create a proper sideboard for the dining room. And here it is, complete with one of the pretty lamps.
The last two pics in the above gallery showcase another cool addition here at Purgatory–Philips HUE smart bulbs in many of our lights, like the exterior garage sconces and behind the couch in my office. Not only can we easily schedule the on/off times for such lights, and even special conditions, but depending on the bulb, we can often set the color of the light.
Thus every night at sunset the garage sconces come alive, as do the table lamps in the great room and a few other lights. They are all the same color and the color is different depending on the day of the week. Then at 10pm, it’s lights out. Thanks to this handy system, the number of conventional night lights scattered about the house has been cut by about two-thirds.
One last little blip to this story: when staining the tables, a little sticker fell off one of them. The thing is a relic from one of the many moves my family made when I was a kid. I’m not sure what move it was from though.
