What follows is a bit of a weird tale, even for here.
Before the Porsche 914 was purchased, and back when we were living in San Francisco (in 2012 to be exact), Agent Smith bought an early ’70s BMW 002. It proved to be not as pictured in the listing and was going to be much more of a project car than he intended, so he took it up to Sonoma to a shop that would handle making it better. (This is why we now have a hard rule that any vehicles must be seen in person before we buy them.)
A short while later, the owner of the shop moved to Michigan. As in he packed up his shop, the handful of cars he was still working on (including our 002), and a couple of his staff, and moved everything to Michigan.
At some point in the future we will need to take a long road trip out there, but the car is still not ready. I have no pictures of our own to share, but you can see the lot of shots of all the work here. As you will see it required a lot of work, as Agent Smith actually ended up buying a second 002, and the two have become one. Since race cars occupy most of his time, it is a good thing (even if a very protracted one) that this car is being worked on here at the ranch.
