So, carrying on from the last post earlier this year–after I did my huge data cleanup, my OWC drive enclosure started experiencing issues, namely the SSD drive kept unmounting itself for no apparent reason. That unit was my main workhorse for housing photos and current video footage–all the stuff that eventually ends up on stega.org, networkgirl.org, diving.stega.org, flying.stega.org, and this site resided on the two drives in the system at some point in my workflow. This meant working on photo and video stuff became very problematic. So I contacted OWC and explained what was going on and after a couple back-and-forths, they asked me to send them the unit–not an easy thing to prep for as I needed to move around a lot of data. Inside the enclosure there was also a very large SATA drive holding many other files. Usually my workflow involves editing current projects using the SSD and then, once done and ready for archiving, stuff gets shuffled over to the SATA drive. Then the stuff on the SATA is backed up via rsync to the NAS in the wine room/server closet in the studio building, which then is backed up regularly to an offsite solution. Moving the bits around thus took a bit, but eventually I sent the enclosure off, and two weeks later I finally got word that the they addressed the issues and the drive is on its slow journey back.
Sadly, they did not fix the issue, and in the end I shelled out for a fresh SSD and put the SATA drive in a spare Thunderbolt enclosure. I gave the OWC unit to Agent Smith, who parted it out and discovered that, for some reason, they had slapped a sticker directly over the SSD heat sync. That all finally got resolved, and now I’m trying to write posts for this site while managing some crazy projects at the ranch.
Stuff like:
-The finale to the Pit of Purgatory saga (yes, it’s finally over!)
-The tale of replacing the north and south wings’ roofs
-A handful of auction finds
-The purchasing of Little Purgatory. Yeah, you read that right–there’s a second Purgatory!!!!!
Plus a ton of other completed projects and news!
Now I’d best go finish writing all these posts…
