We often get people who are lost up here. Because the road clearly splits at our driveway with the left side going up to the half a dozen properties past us, we have the sign pointing to the three addresses accessible by the right fork, aka our driveway.
But many people are illiterate. At least once a week we get some poor sod lost up here and they come almost all the way down our driveway. I say “almost” because they inevitably try to turn around just before the gravel RV pad. That is not a safe spot to turnabout. There is a large drain just off the driveway that is surrounded by some old concrete footings. More than one car has ripped up its underside as a result.
So the easy answer was another sign or two. My favorite site for outdoor signs is BuildASign.com, so I popped over to the site and drafted up something. Soon enough two signs arrived. We attached one to the house yard gate, and the other we mounted on a spare length of pipe and an old race car wheel, thus creating a standing and moveable sign to place just off the driveway.
Of course some people are still REALLY dumb and insist on turning about where the second sign is, but it’s not our problem if they damage their vehicles.
The free-standing sign did take a bit of hit this past winter though. A giant, and I mean GIANT, limb fell from the big gum tree near the house yard gate, within inches of the big trailer. Unfortunately it landed atop the mobile sign. Once we managed to chain saw up the fallen limb and load the bits into Dumpy for “storage” at the giant wood pile, we tidied up the wee sign as best we could, but it now has a certain jaunty look.
