Part of the stega Stego collection

More Miscellaneous Crafts

Posted on December 26, 2025January 15, 2026 By stega

Here’s a rundown of some of the crafts I managed to get through this year.

First off, a bunch of one-dollar balsa-wood stegosaurus puzzle things I found at Tractor Supply (I think) finally got painted and put together. They now sit atop one of the bookcases in the north hallway. Sidenote: they are also glued in spots.

Then a while back, I found some super cute bisque fired Christmas trees at Joann’s (RIP; private equity firms are evil!). I painted them different color schemes, and they joined our small the collection of holiday decor.

Agent Smith assisted with another tiny project. I needed a better storage option for some sewing and embroidery supplies, so I snagged an unused storage bin. Using one of our 3D printers, Agent Smith made me some spool holders. Now they all fit and then some.

A weird project was taking some rather ugly bargain-bin stegosaurus toys gifted to me over the years and making them extraordinary. (That reminds me–if you happen to find an unloved plastic stegosaurus at a charity shop or bargain store and want to send it to me, ping me via email.) Anyway, I now have some rather unique stegas in my collection, although I may not be gluing beads all over one any time soon. Still, I now have a Dia de Los Muertos-esque stega, a glitterasaurus and, of course, a beautiful, beaded stega.

After last year’s awful election results, I consoled myself by playing with Lego. While we have several completed Jekca builds scattered throughout the house, we have never done much with that brand’s competitor. But when looking over the Jekca website for new gift options, I discovered they sell tissue box holder kits. Only problem–they are only sold in Asia. What was I to do? Why, self-soothe my loathing for the misogyny and fake-christian propaganda masquerading as patriotism by creating some Lego tissue box covers.

Many scarves have been made lately, and a bunch of random tins and boxes painted and repurposed, including this odd little box from Sensibo. You can see a quick video of that over on my Instagram.

And I’m starting to make more use of the harvested chandelier crystals. Earlier I made some crystal garden topiary things, and now I’ve been making some fast suncatchers.

Lastly, a while back I decided I wanted to solve the problem of things getting lost in the back of the top of my lovely antique Davenport desk. I found a seller on Etsy that makes custom boxes from reclaimed wood. A bit of measuring and measuring again, I put through my order, and in less than a week two boxes arrived. I painted them, used some old bottle caps to fashion some pulls, slid them into place, and the problem was solved.

Other crafts and small projects are always happening, but these were some of the more interesting ones.
