Another Auction Craft

Posted on April 18, 2025July 18, 2025 By stega

From the very same auction that yielded the bountiful crystal chandelier in the last two posts, I also picked up a bunch of small glass frames–the sort that are two panes of glass with a hinge so that one can insert their own bit of art or a moment and then hang the frame up via the chain across the top. I got several dozen frames for a whopping $15.

Then, with some transparency film made for inkjet printers, I took some of my favorite photos of birds and hares that visit the north garden (and have been posted over at stega.org) and I made tiny little bits of art.

Most of the lot have been donated to SFBBO.org for their 2024 silent auction. They did quite well, raising over $70. There was a set of two Western Bluebirds with insects in their mouths at the same box, a set with a California Scrub Jay and Steller’s Jay, another set of three with hares and another 3-set with a California Quail. Not bad for a $15 auction find plus another $15 for 50 sheets of printable transparency film.

But wait, there’s more! Those were just the ones that were auctioned off last fall. Since I was making a dozen for the auction, it was just as easy to make some for next year’s auction as well. So I used up all the frames I had…

I did keep one for myself, a lovely image of a Black Phoebe.

But wait, there’s MORE more!! I have a bunch of leftover glass from my first attempt to fix the courtyard lights, so I decided to practice the skills I learned when rehabbing a dollhouse my neighbors were going to toss. Out came my soldering iron and some spare jewelry findings purchased long ago for a project and never used. And to spice up my creations, I then added a few of the crystals from that mountain I harvested from the chandelier. And those now hang (thanks to the super-handy tiny Command hooks I have on hand) on the door into the blue room.

Hopefully I’ll find yet more uses for all the spare glass and crystals I have on hand, but for now I have moved on to other projects.
