Carrying on from the last post, in early 2023 we needed to fix the run between the wellhead and tank. Because we live halfway up a mountain and our ground has a lot of clay, things can move a bit. Even when buried a couple feet underground, earth movement can lead to a pipe failing at a junction and that is what happened here.
We scheduled Able Septic and Sewer to come out and fix that and a bit more. Instead of just running a single new line of pipe, we went with a more flexible solution and also had them bury conduit so we could run new electrical wiring, as the whole “flooding of the controls” mentions in the last post meant we no longer trusted the existing wires, since they had been stewing in a muddy soup for a couple months.
First, a 155-foot main trench and side trench were dug over to the wellhead:
Then the lines and conduit went into the trench, which was then filled with sand just enough to cover all the new lines. The trench then was backfilled and compacted down:
Finally, the plumbing up the side of the tank was redone. Best of all, they built a lovely support for that line since it is exposed and we get a lot of wind in the winter. That riser proved incredibly useful for the next few months as the well was not automated.
Here’s the finished work, with a couple of before pics for good measure:
