It’s been a busy but rather productive year. I’ve even managed to squeak out a few crafty projects.
A quick-and-easy upgrade I crafted was blocking out the manufacturer’s name for our battery backup system. I found a cute vector graphic of a hare on Etsy and used my Cricut to cut it onto some vinyl. The result is a lovely upgrade. I’m now thinking of other places I could make use of the hare.
Another Cricuting project was taking a metal breadbox I found on clearance at Joann’s (RIP; private equity firms are just evil!). For the last year and a bit we’ve been subscribing to the Sakuraco and Tokyo Treat monthly boxes, but we really needed a better way to store them. Originally we used a kitchen drawer, but then we would forget to check it. Thanks to my Cricut, we have a cute solution that sits on our counter and encourages us to have a treat every now and then.
I also spent some time making more stegas–the plastic or wooden kind. A friend gave me one of those “excavate a fossil” toys, so I had fun chipping the tiny plastic bits from out of the funky almost-cement-like structure. Only problem–once completed, it was pretty ugly. I got busy with a bit of paint and some spare craft moss and voila! Rainbow-stegasaurus!
I’ve spent a lot of time taking stuff off the big IKEA bookcase in my office. Technically, it’s called “Kallax,” but I just call it “the big bookcase thingy.” It originally belonged to Agent Smith, and we used it as a room divider in our bedroom when we lived in San Francisco. Since moving to the ranch, it’s been a staple of my office. Not only does it provide a ton of storage, it also acts as divider between the entrance area and the area where my sewing machines and sound booth reside.
The two pics in the middle of the gallery below were taken as I’m writing this. Recently I took a bunch of craft and bird books from the tiny shelf by my couch and placed them onto the bottom shelves of the Kallax–it was too hard to access them on the small shelf. Then, I put all my works-in-progress onto the right-most shelves. We’ll see how many I can get to in the coming months.
I did make good progress in the last few months, though–more about that in the next post.
