While organizing images for various posts, I ended up with a bunch of orphaned photos that aren’t part of a larger story nor do they warrant a story of their own. So this post is sort of a catch-all for these random slices of life.
First off, two cute small garden sculptures I got on sale at DesertSteel.com: a hare that now sits outside my office and a roadrunner that likes to get blown off the big windowsill outside the kitchen. (They are from the same company I got three others: an owl, a cute frilled lizard and a bat hiding in a bat, all pictured in the gallery below.)
And typing of sculptures, we had a stray traffic cone sitting out behind the garage for a long time. Originally it sat near the valve for the water main’s christie box, but eventually it got moved to the mini wall of spare concrete blocks left over from the Great Wall project. And then it got used in an unexpected way: wild birds loved to perch on it, and defecate on it. And after almost a year, it did really look kind of like a work of art…but not enough. A quick spray with the hose and it was once again clean.
I did get a really cute, small, proper sculpture in the mail several years ago. See, a cousin of a friend and the cousin’s son were seeking funding for a documentary over on Indigogo.com. The documentary is called Why Dinosaurs and is about the human fascination with dinosaurs. So we went in as executive producers, and this cute little carved stega was a thank you gift–plus we did a hat swap with them.
Just a few more images to share…
When we were building out the north garden, Agent Smith found this rather adorable, if very, very weathered toy car. It probably belonged to one of the children that grew up here. I totally forgot to ask about it when they visited two summers ago.
It now sits on my desk next to a couple other Matchbox cars I found on eBay that are replicas of ones I had as a kid, and thought were lost long ago–until I found my originals when I was back in Ohio a couple years ago.
And then the sad addendum to the Midge v1.0 theft story. The very same day Agent Smith went down to the DMV to take care of the paperwork for Midge v2.0, the KLVN8OR (“Kelvinator”) plates arrived in the mail. Since Midge v2.0 is a gold color, the plates wouldn’t make sense: Midge v1.0 was much more refrigerator-like in appearance. So I surrendered the plates back to the DMV, which is a surprisingly difficult task, as you must do so in person.
And finally a few years back, we invested in new shopping bags. Three years ago, we got some from RareForm.com and I cannot say enough good things about them. All our old shopping bags have since been donated to other causes, usually when full of other stuff to be donated. We don’t usually rave about products, but these things are the bomb–so sturdy and they hold a ton. Just three of them are big enough to contain all our groceries for a week or two, and nothing gets smushed. I may have to buy a pretty upscale tote from them for my upcoming (and hopefully epic) trip, which by the time this post goes live, I will be enjoying. Hit up the link to my Instagram to see what I’m up to!
