I’ve continued to find bits and bobs from auction houses for the house. Over the last year I picked up some great bargains. Like this wee dresser I got as a temporary storage solution, since we cannot redo our bathroom and closet due to the inability of the Santa Clara Department of Planning to work in an efficient manner.
I also spent about six months looking for an interesting arm chair to join the one that sits just outside the boys’ space. I finally found something interesting AND managed to snag it for under budget. It’s a bit loud, but after a good cleaning with my trusty portable carpet cleaner it looks quite nice in the space.
Late last year a local auction house was liquidating the contents of a staging company’s warehouse. For just a few hundred dollars I managed to get quite a cache of stuff–couple of cowhide rugs, some funky art, a boring ottoman (more about that later), a couple of small tables and some glass orbs.
The wall art was hung in various locations (although I need to address the long scratches on the plexiglass frames of string art), while I placed the glass orbs in the fireplace to catch the light. One of the rugs went under the chairs outside the bird room (you can see the pic in the gallery above), but the other rug I placed under the couch in my office as the black rug that was already there tended to accumulate a lot of detritus.
I wasn’t thrilled with the giant metal circle-y thing for the downstairs of the great room, but it cost next to nothing and filled the space. Little did I know just a few months later something better would come along…
