In addition to the toolbox-turned-charging station detailed in the last post, I decided to be creative when I wanted something fun for my Apple Watch. I was late to the Apple Watch ranks, as I just got one over a year ago, but shortly after I started using it I decided I wanted a more fun way to charge it.
I went looking on Etsy for options and found a seller that offered up a stand that looked like a vintage mid-80s Mac. The only problem was the color was all wrong. So, as we have a 3D printer of our own and several users over at Thingaverse.com had uploaded STL files for printing one’s own watch stand, I got busy.
Not happy with the basic white, I hand-painted my print output to have that aged yellow plastic feel of a real unit. Then I glued some spare bits of metal to the charger insert to provide some extra weight, making the setup much more stable. The final touch was a wee hand-painted rainbow Apple logo. The end result is oh-so-cute and functional. Every night when I slip my watch into the slot to charge, I smile.
