The previous owners had a new septic put in over ten years ago, but in all that time never had it pumped. When we were in escrow and had it inspected, we discovered–unsurprisingly–that it had failed. It was thus high on our list of things to get fixed.
Back in July, after much web searching, phone calling and running about, I finally found a company that could handle the septic tank replacement and not charge us $50K. It took a while for them to actually have space in their schedule to do the job, but this morning they showed up bright and early. They pumped out the old tank and are currently busy demolishing it and making the hole ready for the new one.
